A common question I get asked is - what does Reiki feel like?
Every person will have a unique experience.
They may feel many different things or nothing remarkable at all. No matter what it feels like for you, Reiki is working just as it is supposed to. It can be very subtle and depending on what state you are in, this can affect your sensitivity to feeling it’s effects in the moment. This is why it is advised not to consume alcohol, drugs or stimulants such as caffeine within 24 hours of a session. No matter what you feel, the most important thing is to be receptive to the energy and trust it is working for your highest good.
The following list is based on my own experiences when receiving Reiki and the experiences reported to me by my clients. Most people only experience a few in a session, so don’t worry that you will be going through all this at once!
When receiving Reiki you may feel sensations of:
Buzzing
Tingling
Vibrating
Heat
Cold
Tickling
Relaxation
Waves of energy
Pulling
Dizziness
Stillness of thoughts
Feeling disconnected from your body
Heaviness
Lightness
You may have more physical reactions such as:
Sleeping
Twitching
Crying
Muscle cramps or spasms
Coughing
Rushes of energy
Deep breathing
You may have visions or see things such as:
Lights
Colours
Memories
Symbols
Patterns
Shapes
Loved ones
After your Reiki session you may feel:
Deeply relaxed
Emotional
Calm
Centred
Happy
Sleepy
Energized
Hungry
Lighter
Clearer
Sometimes energy work can stir up repressed emotions, so you may also have a short clearing period which can result in cold or flu like symptoms while your body releases this old energy. In the days that follow you may find that things feel easier, you are happier, feel more gratitude for life and a sense of wellbeing. Any ailments you had may be improved or gone and things that you saw as problems may not seem that way anymore. You may experience a deeper connection to other people and your environment.
If you are curious to see what Reiki feels like for you, why not book a session to find out!
